To the Moon and Back: 5 Astral Projection Techniques To Help You Get Started Now
In 2014, Cyrus Kirkpatrick felt a tingling sensation as he laid in bed. The feeling, like small bits of electricity, was moving about his body, increasing until he saw something very interesting: a pair of duplicate arms rising out from his physical ones, which were still relaxed on the bed.
Kirkpatrick was practicing astral projection.
A graduate of the University of Arizona, he would eventually continue on to write about his journeys, spirituality and various lifestyles.
For those new to the astral plane, and out-of-body experience can be a daunting prospect. That’s why we’ve compiled the five best astral projection techniques for beginners.
What Is It?
If you’ve ever had a dream where you are looking down at yourself in bed, chances are you’ve successfully projected out of your body.
When an individual astral projects, his or her astral body leaves his physical one.
Experienced projectors can travel to different locations or even other planes of existence.
Astral projection has been practiced for centuries. It is an activity that is talked about in numerous religions and cultures, ranging from the Egyptians to Hindu scripture.
While scientists often scoff at its plausibility, the very fact that ancient cultures across the world have written about and practiced this technique aids its authenticity.
Projection is achieved when your brain emits theta waves, the slowest waves of all. They are associated with intense imagination, hypnotic states, and deep sleep.
Why Practice?
Astral projection is not only a fun way to travel, but it also teaches us more about ourselves, the world and places or ideas that we thought may never have existed.
Jerry Gross of Thought.co writes, “Astral projection allows us to discover that the people and objects existing on these other realms can be just as solid and real as any object on the earth terrain.”
The Dangers
The usual myths associated with anything otherworldly abound here: you can get stuck, you can die, you can be possessed.
Firstly, you can always return to your body; it will be there waiting for you. If anything surprising happens (you become very happy or perhaps receive a fright), your brain will also “suck” you back to your body.
Secondly, your astral body cannot be harmed, so you cannot die while projecting. Of course, you should always practice in a location where your physical body is safe.
Finally, the idea of possession has little bearing and is largely influenced by media, but we will discuss this in a moment.
However, there are a couple real risks you should consider.
Breathing Difficulty
Sometimes, especially if you are new to traveling, people may experience difficulties breathing as their astral bodies leave their physical ones.
It is suspected this is due to the brain’s attempts to decode the sense of separation. Usually, this feeling only lasts a moment.
If you are worried about this happening to you, consider breathing deeply in and out through your nose as you project.
Possession
It’s a commonly accepted notion that you cannot be possessed in astral planes unless you give something permission to do so. Therefore, as you meet other beings from different worlds (or even from ours), be very careful what you say.
If you still have concerns, consider practicing prayer or using herbs, crystals or angels to keep you safe.
The Best Astral Projection Techniques for Beginners
You’re ready.
It doesn’t take years of study to have an out-of-body experience (OOBE). It just takes practice.
Here, we’ll show you five easy astral traveling techniques so that you can choose the best method for yourself.
But first: a quick suggestion.
Successful traveling requires a calm body and mind. Therefore, practicing techniques to help you achieve this relaxed state will only help your efforts at astral travel.
1. Visualization
Like meditation and mantras, visualization is also a key characteristic of success.
In this technique, place a mirror at an angle so that you can see your image reflected in it. Close your eyes and try to picture every detail of that image using the five senses as you lie comfortably.
Eventually, you may find you are actually looking down at your real self. Once you become proficient at meditation and visualization, you can imagine specific locations to travel to.
2. Hypnosis through Sound
If anyone ever calls you loony for believing in astral projection, just point out that it can’t be that crazy or the military wouldn’t have bothered studying it.
Seriously.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the US Army researched and studied hypnosis, out-of-body experiences and astral projection.
They may have been onto something, as hypnosis is certainly one technique beginners can try to reach the astral plane.
Although still controversial, many studies have found binaural beats are effective at inducing a meditative state because it puts listeners into an almost hypnotic trance.
These sounds project two slightly different frequencies (one into each ear), but your brain will only hear one sound.
Listen to these tunes while lying down to reach that in-between state where you can leave your physical body.
3. Crystals
Crystals are also great for beginning travelers.
According to Doreen Virtue’s book Crystal Therapy, Angelite, apophyllite and green calcite are also effective for astral travel.
After purchasing your crystal of choice, be sure to cleanse it. Then, communicate your intentions to it.
When you are ready to try astral travel, place it nearby or hold it in your hands before relaxing or falling asleep.
Repeat the process whenever you feel the crystal’s energy dim.
4. Mantras
It’s not just lore. Mantras have positive effects on living creatures, including humans and plants.
By repeating a positive affirmation throughout the day, you are mentally prepping yourself for travel that night.
Make your mantra simple but memorable and be sure to repeat it often throughout the day and several times before falling asleep.
5. Meditation
Meditation has many benefits, but it provides an easy way for beginners to learn to control their breathing and state of being.
While listening to meditation music or a guided meditation, close your eyes and imagine the seven chakra points.
See yourself traveling through them, with the colors of each surrounding you as you travel from the red Muladhara at the base of your spine slowly upwards to the violet Sahasrara at the crown of the head.
From there, you may suddenly find you are able to float out of your body.
Become a Pro Voyager
The preferred astral projection techniques vary according to the individual, but these five are great starters. They are easier to accomplish and, even when you may not quite project, you are still practicing the necessary skills that will lead to an eventual OOBE.
But if you want to make the process even easier, consider using our MP3 meditation program to get those Theta waves rolling.
Save travels, voyager.
